Description
Some evenings start with one bottle and end with a second opened for the table. This 7-in-1 wine decanter and stopper set looks after both. The decanter lets air into the wine and filters it as you pour, and the stopper closes the second bottle between glasses.
What sets it apart
Two pieces, and this is what each one does.
- Lets air into a young red as you pour, so it tastes softer straight away, with no hour of waiting.
- Fits 99 percent of standard 750ml wine bottles, with a cork or a screw cap.
- Holds back the fine deposit an older red leaves behind, so the last glass is as clear as the first.
- Ends every pour without a drip, so no wine runs down the label.
- Hides the torn foil or the screw-cap thread, so the bottle looks neat on the table.
- Closes a second open bottle with the sommelier stopper, so you can finish it another day.
- Brings a decanter design to your table that won the Red Dot Award for product design in 2016.
How it works
A red wine often tastes sharp and dry when the bottle is first opened. The usual fix is time: an hour with the cork out before anyone pours.
This decanter gives the wine its air in the few seconds it takes to pour. Seven small tubes inside pull in air as the wine flows through, so it is ready by the time it reaches the glass.
Air takes the dry edge off a young red and brings out its aroma. It works on whites and older reds too.
The sommelier stopper is the second piece in the set. Push it into the white while the red is being poured, and lift it out when someone asks for a glass.
Who it suits
It suits the host who pours a young red at the braai and wants it at its best from the first glass, and the friend who likes a glass of red with Sunday supper and the rest the next evening.
A good South African bottle deserves the same care at home as it gets in a tasting room, and this set brings that care to an ordinary weeknight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the decanter change how the wine tastes?
Yes. As you pour, the decanter lets air into the wine, which takes the dry edge off a young red and brings out its aroma. You notice it most on a red opened the same evening.
Will it fit my wine bottles?
The decanter fits 99 percent of standard 750ml bottles, with a cork or a screw cap. It is 41mm across. Half bottles and very wide necks are worth checking first.
How do I clean the decanter?
Rinse it under running water after use and let it dry. VAGNBYS says no dish soap and no dishwasher for the decanter.
Can I store an opened bottle with the stopper in?
Yes. Close the bottle with the stopper, or with the decanter's own cap, and store it upright, as VAGNBYS advises for open wine.
Is it a good wine gift?
Yes. They will use it from the first dinner, and the decanter's design won a Red Dot Award in 2016. It suits anyone who enjoys a good bottle at home.
For the dad with a well-stocked wine rack, or the colleague who hosts the year-end dinner, this set goes straight onto the table at their next meal. Wrap it for Father's Day, a 40th or a thank-you at the end of a good year.
